Visual Arts Cross Hatching

When doing the contour lines for my leopard sketch i had to be aware of the shape of the leopard. I first started with the basic shapes of the trees and leopard. Once the shapes were finished i started to add more detail into the shapes. I had to be sure i used smooth lines when i applied the curves to the leopard and a more rigid line when doing the trees. When doing the actual marker crosshatching i was trying to be aware of the value so i could create a 3d form on the picture plane. I learned that for the leopard i should not have used just parallel lines because I felt it would not give the curve of the leopard's body that i wanted to portray. I wanted the deep parts of the trees to be darker so it showed depth and the body of the leopard to be lighter so the viewer was able to see that it was in the light and that it was on the tree.

What i learned about this artwork was that value gave depth and it showed 3d form. The lines were vital to creating the structure of the animals and the rigid structure of the trees.
